USING AQUA MIX GROUT SEALER WHEN
SEALING GROUT WILL HELP TO PREVENT GROUT STAINS, MAKE GROUT CLEANING
EASIER AND KEEP YOUR GROUT LOOKING NEWER FOR LONGER
One of the most common complaints about tiling
is that the grout becomes stained, dirty, discoloured and hard to
keep clean. The good news is that it is possible to prevent this
from happening by using a good quality grout sealer and, that sealing
grout is easy. Now, grout sealer and the idea of sealing grout have
been around for a very long time yet, it seems that very few people
take advantage of the low cost protection that it can offer. In
the UK and Ireland it is estimated that less than 10% of all grout
joints are sealed.
While most people appreciate the wisdom in
the saying “prevention is better than cure” they appear
to be perfectly happy to wait until their grout becomes so stained
or dirty that it becomes almost impossible to clean. That’s
why you need to use grout sealer. It is far easier and cheaper to
keep new grout looking new by sealing grout than it is to try to
restore heavily stained grout.
Here are 10 reasons why you should
use the very best Aqua Mix grout sealer when sealing grout:
- Low cost grout protection – (sealing
grout can be as little as 1 to 2% of the overall project cost!)
- Grout sealer has great reaction time –
gives you the chance to remove contaminants before they can stain
- Excellent resistance to water-born, oil
and acid based contaminants
- Grout sealers help prevent the growth of
mould and mildew
- Extremely Safe
- It is very easy to use grout sealer
- Can be used inside or out
- Suitable on walls, floors and countertops
- Penetrates and leaves virtually invisible
film on the grout surface – this greatly aids cleaning
- Grout sealer lasts up to 5 years

With the exception of 100% epoxy grout (that
is impervious), all other cement-based grouts are porous, even latex
or polymer-modified grouts are porous to some degree. Consequently,
they are subject to sub-surface staining if you haven’t used
grout sealer. Sealing grout joints using grout sealer is very easy
and the benefits are obvious. The primary benefit being that the
grout sealer, once dry provides a barrier between spills and the
grout. Like all penetrating
sealers, a grout sealer’s job is to provide ‘reaction
time’ so the staining contaminant is prevented from penetrating
deep into the joint; it is kept at surface level where it can be
easily cleaned.
Some grout sealers have reaction times of several
hours, while others have just minutes. Also, grout sealer technology
has improved so dramatically, that now they can last for years rather
than just months before requiring reapplication. The perfection
of water-based products offers a far more pleasant, easier and safer
D.I.Y application.
Sealing grout with a good quality grout sealer
will not only offer excellent protection against water-born contaminants
but should also offer good resistance to acid and oil based staining.
This is an obvious benefit in kitchen and food serving areas, clearly
surfaces coming into direct contact with food such as work-surfaces
should be grouted using a suitable epoxy grout, but adjacent areas
such as splash backs and floors are invariably grouted with non-epoxy
grouts.
In addition to protecting grout joints from
unsightly stains and prolonging the ‘new’ look, grout
sealer will help prevent unpleasant mould growth. Mould thrives
on moisture; consequently areas subject to continuous moisture are
areas where mould will prosper. A tiled shower with unsealed cement-based
grout will never actually reach a completely dry condition. Even
if the shower is used just once every day, the grout will absorb
sufficient moisture during each shower to maintain a damp condition
that is ideal for mould growth. By simply sealing grout, and allowing
adequate ventilation, mould growth can be substantially reduced
or even prevented.
Grout sealer can be used to protect any porous grout, whether it
is on the floor, wall or even on countertops. Grout sealer can be
used inside or out, ideally on new grout (prevention is better than
cure!) but can also be used to protect existing grouts that have
been successfully cleaned.
When you consider the very low cost, the ease
of application and the multiple benefits of sealing grout, the decision
to protect your grout with grout sealer should be an easy one.
